VistaJet soaring to summit of Business Aviation
October 2006
A private jet service that transports business leaders from point A to point B in an efficient and comfortable environment; a service that operates and manages planes, allowing passengers to focus on business; a financing service that helps you buy a plane; a brokerage that helps you acquire the right aircraft for you. All these elements comprise one unique business model and it's called VistaJet.

The Swiss company, with offices in Austria, offers operation, financing, brokerage and private jet charter services. It bought its first aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace in 2003 and is now the manufacturer's largest European client. VistaJet most recently ordered three of the new Bombardier Challenger 605 business jets, with options for two more. It is the first and largest multiple aircraft order placed by a European company for the jet. It also testifies to VistaJet's mission to continually upgrade its fleet so as to keep offering its clientele what is at the forefront in air travel.
"Our philosophy is that we operate aircraft for two-and-a-half to three years and to constantly be flying the newest planes," explains Bing Chen, Chief Executive Officer of VistaJet, which has over 65 employees and travels to destinations all over the world.
VistaJet currently operates two Bombardier Learjet 60 mid-size jets, two Challenger 604 widebody aircraft and one ultra-long-range Global Express XRS business jet. “Our brand represents the highest in service quality, an outstanding safety track record spanning 18 years, and uncompromising attention to detail. The Bombardier family of proven, high performance business jets offers us the product range and means to further enhance VistaJet’s brand equity,” noted Mr. Chen.
The company will get its first Challenger 605 in late 2007, once it makes its entry into service. In the same acquisition, VistaJet also picked up another Global Express XRS ultra-long-range aircraft and two Challenger 604 business jets. The fleet, fully owned by VistaJet, currently comprises 21 medium- to ultra-long-range jets either in operation or on order, including those on which it has options. Over the last three years, VistaJet has converted to Bombardier, giving its fleet uniformity as well as full access to the Bombardier Skyjet International charter network.

Launched in November 2005, the Challenger 605 jet features the widest stand-up cabin of any large-size business jet available today. It operates at a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.82 (870 km/h), and offers an increased payload capacity of 200 pounds (91 kg). The aircraft is equipped with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite that supports real-time satellite graphical weather and electronic charts to enhance situational awareness and reduce pilot workload, and features a state-of-the-art Ethernet-based Cabin Electronic System.
"Bombardier offers a range of aircraft. VistaJet has been able to buy very diverse aircraft from one manufacturer that serves its many purposes," says Bob Horner, Vice President, Sales, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Bombardier Business Aircraft. "Also, our planes are reliable and when you're operating on a charter basis, reliability is key."
What stands out about Bombardier Aerospace, according to Chen, is its servicing capabilities and manufacturing support. "First of all, Bombardier has a solid product. Secondly, from a business jet sales perspective, the sales organization has done a good job hearing our needs, getting involved, and facilitating and solving problems for us."
VistaJet was created in response to commercial aviation's inability to accommodate the desire for flexibility in scheduling and freedom from restrictions of corporate individuals working in a global economy. VistaJet set out to offer the ultimate business jet service for a discriminating clientele: the most current planes, large, comfortable cabins, personalized service and scheduling, discretion and complete in-person service.
"We are very well and uniquely positioned in business aviation," Chen contends. "Business aviation provides flexibility, service and assets to business travellers. We want to continually provide the best value, the highest quality."
VistaJet's unique business model comprises four distinct areas. Its private aircraft charter service caters to clients' specific needs. Last-minute trip plans, limousine pickup, on-board catering, in-flight entertainment—all the comforts and amenities of air travel are arranged. Meanwhile, flights are led by highly experienced pilots.
The company also operates and manages third-party aircraft, allowing clients to experience plane ownership without some of the accompanying issues. VistaJet can provide a crew for your plane, plan your flight, as well as take care of flight reports, the maintenance process, and financing, insurance and administrative details.
In collaboration with its partners, VistaJet's financing services staff devises sales, lease and finance plans to help clients purchase aircraft. "We continually look for innovative financing for our clients," Chen notes. For those on the market for a business jet, VistaJet also does aircraft trading and has a network of 250 brokers.
"We have a very seamless operation. It's become a Swiss watch," Chen says of the VistaJet model.
On average, each of the company's planes travels over 1,200 hours per year, substantially more than the industry norm. The operation has grown rapidly. "We have such a chartering brand name in Russia," Chen says, adding that VistaJet logs more landings and takeoffs in Moscow than other charter passenger services. VistaJet's vision for the future includes expanding into Asia and North America.
"What we're always looking to do at Bombardier, first and foremost, is get a satisfied customer," Horner stresses. "We've satisfied VistaJet not only in terms of the products we supply, but in supporting them as well. The fact we have a successful client whose fleet is entirely Bombardier is an example we can point out to other prospective clients."
